 International Desert Research Center (IDRC)


IDRC was established in 1975 as a research unit within the University of Tehran. The main goal of this Centre is to research on natural, human, social and ecological aspects of desert areas. The major activities have been geared toward developmental progress and improvement of livelihood of local people.

In 1989, the Centre modified its earlier agenda and its status was promoted to a research institute. In 2006, it was renamed to “International Research Centre for Co-existing with Desert” and then renamed to “International Desert Research Centre” (IDRC) since 2009.
